There’s a strange paradox that I’ve experienced since I quit drinking: I’m more tempted by alcohol when sobriety is going well than when it’s going badly.

Although I’ve sometimes craved a drink after a hard day or thought about alcohol when I’m struggling with my personal life, the times when I’ve been closest to a relapse have been when everything is going perfectly.

In today’s newsletter, I’m going to explain why this apparent paradox exists, and how I resist these unexpected temptations.
