Not all self-improvement has the same value.

Ever since I quit drinking, I’ve been on a self-improvement kick.

That’s nine years of overcoming addiction, exercising, eating healthier, reading more, budgeting wisely, and learning new skills. And while all of that is good, sometimes I have to take a step back and remind myself that there’s more to life than constantly trying to be “better” than we were before.

Does that mean giving up on all of the positive changes that I’ve made in my life? Of course not. But it does mean being mindful about which of those changes are worth the effort and which are not.
