Spotify Wrapped is one of my favorite marketing gimmicks of all time. For anyone who isn’t familiar with it, Wrapped is a personalized summary that the music streaming service sends out to each of its users every December.
Your Spotify Wrapped contains all kinds of stats about the music that you listened to that year, such as your most streamed bands, favorite tracks, and even how you compare with other users. The stats are displayed in a fun set of infographics that can easily be shared across social media.
The campaign began in 2016 and has proven incredibly popular—so popular that many other websites have copied the model. Even Nintendo has begun sending out year-end summaries telling people which video games they’ve spent the most time playing on their Switch.
Every December, when I start seeing these emails, I wonder to myself: What would a “Sobriety Wrapped” look like? Could we summarize sobriety in a series of easily digestible statistics and top-five lists?
